And just because I use specific brands, doesn’t mean you have to. Feel free to try other brands. I’m only sharing the ingredients I use. I am not being paid to endorse anything.

Now, the reason why I use both chicken and tomato bouillon in this broth mix, is that the tomato bouillon has a tendency to clump on it’s own. The inclusion of the chicken bouillon helps prevent clumping.

Fun Fact: Ancho Chile Peppers are ripened and dried Poblano Peppers

This broth mix can also be made vegan by replacing the bouillons with vegan bouillons of your choice.

SINGLE SERVING

This recipe makes makes 1 tablespoon of broth mix, which when combined with 2 cups of hot water and a brick of instant noodles, will create an extremely tasty bowl of noodle soup.

  • 1 teaspoon Knorr Granulated Chicken Bouillon
  • 1 teaspoon Knorr Granulated Tomato Bouillon with Chicken Flavor
  • 3/8 teaspoon Ancho Chile Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon True Lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon Simply Organic Onion Powder
  • 1/16 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/16 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

Feel free to alter the recipe to your tastes. Test it, tweak it, and make it your own. I’d love to hear what you’ve done with it, so please share in the comments at the bottom of the post.

And yes, the measurements do seem tiny. I spent years fine tuning this recipe so that it uses just enough of each individual ingredient, but not too much, to create a wonderfully strong flavor. This was done to conserve ingredients and to stretch that dollar.

SMALL MEASURING SPOONS

I’ll admit I didn’t have a 1/16 teaspoon when I began experimenting with broth mixes. I had to go looking and found the cutest set of small measuring spoons online. It has an 1/8, a 1/16, and a 1/32 teaspoon, also known as a “dash”, “pinch”, and “smidgeon”. They have been very helpful.

BIG BATCH

The following recipe makes 3 cups of broth mix, which is enough for 48 bowls of noodle soup. The recipe can be easily cut in half, if you want to make less.

  • 1 cup Knorr Granulated Chicken Bouillon
  • 1 cup Knorr Granulated Tomato Bouillon with Chicken Flavor
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons Ancho Chile Powder
  • 1/4 cup True Lime
  • 1/4 cup Simply Organic Onion Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Black Pepper

To mix this big batch, I run it through my 7-cup food processor to make sure the ingredients are all thoroughly combined. To prevent clumping, store the broth mix in an airtight container. Depending on the climate (ie. humidity), adding a little rice flour to the batch may also help prevent clumping. Sometimes ingredients may settle out of the mix, so it’s a good idea to give the container a good shake before scooping out a serving.
