There are wondrous sights beyond our world. This 16-piece collection contains stylized versions of some of the best planetary and astronomical imagery ever returned by spacecraft and telescope.
I created these scarves using public domain planetary images. The original images were too small for my purposes, so I resized and touched up the images in Adobe Photoshop. Honestly, they’re beautiful.
Click on the blue links below to see the scarves in more detail, in my Redbubble Shop.
Stylized false-color, infrared image of the Milky Way galaxy.
The Milky Way is estimated to contain 100 billion stars.
Stylized false-color, radar image of the planet Venus’ surface.
Venus is the second planet from the Sun. The image reveals color-coded changes in elevation along its volcanic surface.
Stylized image of the moon Io’s surface.
One of Jupiter’s moons, Io is very volcanic. Its yellow, sulfur-covered surface has hundreds of volcanoes.
Stylized image of the planet Jupiter’s atmosphere.
The fifth planet from the Sun, Jupiter has swirling clouds, huge storms, and colorful bands of gas.
Stylized false-color, infrared image of the planet Jupiter’s atmosphere.
Jupiter’s atmosphere contains bands of gas, that stand out in this infrared image.
Stylized image of the storms at the planet Jupiter’s south pole.
Jupiter has cyclones at its south pole that are up to 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) wide.
Stylized image of the planet Mars’ surface.
The fourth planet from the Sun, Mars is called “The Red Planet” because of its rust-colored surface.
Stylized false-color image of dunes on the surface of the planet Mars.
Dunes on Earth are formed by the wind. Finding similar dunes on Mars, like these, indicates there is wind on Mars.
Stylized false-color image of the planet Mercury’s surface.
The first planet from the Sun, Mercury has highlands (purple), cliffs, lava plains (tan), and craters.
Stylized image of the Milky Way galaxy observed by ESA’s Gaia satellite.
The Milky Way is estimated to contain 100 billion stars.
Stylized image of our Moon’s surface.
Our Moon’s surface consists of bright, heavily cratered highlands and dark, smooth lava-filled lowlands.
Stylized image of the planet Neptune’s atmosphere.
The eighth planet from the Sun, this ice giant has a beautiful, blue methane atmosphere.
Stylized image of the Orion Nebula.
Large, colorful clouds of dust and gas, nebulas are the birthplaces of new stars. The Orion Nebula is one of many nebulas in the Milky Way galaxy.
Stylized image of the dwarf planet Pluto’s surface.
The largest known dwarf planet, Pluto has a large icy, heart-shaped plain and highlands red from methane snow.
Stylized image of the planet Saturn and its rings.
The sixth planet from the Sun, Saturn is surrounded by beautiful rings made of chunks of ice and rock.
Stylized true-color, radar image of the planet Venus’ surface.
The second planet from the Sun, Venus is also the hottest in the solar system. The image reveals its volcanic surface.
